2014 MAZDA MAZDA3- Orlando, FL
Accelerating on the highway passing a semi-truck when I lost acceleration power. Nearly caused a serious accident at highway speeds. Engine light then came on. After the incident the car's engine would stutter when accelerated above 2000rpm. Was able to bring it to a local mechanic who diagnosed both fuel pumps as damaged and replaced. Part was not inspected by police or insurance as it did not lead to a crash.

2021 MAZDA CX-9- Erie, PA
My 2021 Mazda CX-9 uses excessive engine oil as reported in the Mazda "M-Tip" bulletin MT-005/20 and this manufacturer's defect is reportedly caused by defective valve stem seals as claimed in the class action lawsuit U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Southern Division: [XXX] v. Mazda Motor of America, Inc. The valve stem seal problems allegedly cause excessive oil consumption between regular oil change intervals, which increases the risk of engine damage and failure. I believe Mazda must address this issue as soon as possible and repair my affected vehicle before I suffer catastrophic engine failure or long-term engine damage. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

2014 MAZDA CX-5- Brooklyn, NY
There is a defect that leads to the car not turning off property. Reading on various forums, it seems this is a very common problem in Mazda CX-5s. I have spent over $1500 recently on this car, and now this? My battery dies overnight because the car doesn't not fully shut down in park. Again, this is all over the forums. People are getting stranded. It's terribly unsafe.

2012 MAZDA MAZDA3- COLCHESTER, CT
Both front brake rotors fractured while braking, resulting in reduced braking distance and the need for evasive maneuvers to avoid collision. Fracture occurred in the casting, between the hub flange and braking pad surfaces. A photo of one of the rotors is available, but the hardware has been disposed of. Inspection of fracture surfaces shows some local evidence of rust, indicating that the rupture was proceeded by fatigue/corrosion cracking. No other advance warning was available.

2021 MAZDA MAZDA3- Schenectady , NY
Purchased car in January 2020 and within a month/few thousand miles the low engine oil light came on. Almost two years later car continues to burn excessive oil triggering low engine oil light. Dealer doesn’t acknowledge an issue, Mazda still doesn’t have a repair. Owners required to pay for excess servicing until a repair is issued. This is a widespread problem impacting the engine.

2011 MAZDA MAZDA6- Murfreesboro, TN
October 11, 2022 I hit a steep curb while pulling into a gas station before heading to work, which caused alignment issues. I originally thought it was just about that time for an alignment so I drove my car to tire discounters. [XXX] the manager there called me and told me pretty much the sub frame on my car was rusted so bad that he doesn’t even know how I made it to their facility, and pretty much it would cost more to fix than the car is worth, so I should think about trading it in or I would have to look elsewhere for someone to fix the sub frame. After google search about this particular part, my store manager found a recall for the Mazda subframes claiming the listed states fail to put a coating on the subframe to protect the car from rusting. The car originated from Michigan which was one of the states listed on the recall list, so I called Nelson Mazda in Murfreesboro, TN and they had informed me that this particular part was already fixed in 2019 but judging by the picture [XXX] from tire discounters sent me. No one actually fixed anything, so someone falsely lied on documentation so [XXX] from Mazda agreed to take a look at it and he agreed that this sub frame was not “properly” done and had to wait a couple days to get approved in order to redo the recalled part. Well due to sub frame rusting caused additional problems like replace the front uppers control arm, the struts, the front control arm, and the tie rod end needs to be replaced as well. I specifically asked [XXX] if the sub frame was done correctly the first time would these additional problems exist and without any extra explanation he said “No.”, but he informed me Mazda is only taking care of the subframe at no cost, and an alignment. The alignment would prove useless without catering to the other maintenance that needs attention as well, and I do feel since the recall wasn’t not done properly I should not be responsible for additional costs as well. 2022 MAZDA MAZDA3- Morning View, KY
On 8/11/2022, my car indicated a message on my dashboard that said “Air Bag System Malfunction. Have the Vehicle Inspected.” I also received a Safety & Security message in my Inbox on my app that stated “Air bag system and seat belt pre-tensioner system malfunction. Vehicle airbags and seat belt pre-tensioner may not operate correctly in an emergency. Have the vehicle inspected by your dealer.” This message was received multiple times. I called the dealer and they weren’t sure what it meant so I took it to them on October 6, I dropped off my car at the dealer. They called me a few hours later and told me that my car was not safe to drive because the airbag and seat belts weren’t working. Fortunately they had a rental for me, however, today is 11/10/2022 and I still don’t have my car back. They stated that it may take up to 6 weeks to get the parts in. And this dealer has never seen anything like this before.

2016 MAZDA CX-9- Bethesda, MD
A strong coolant smell was noticed in the interior of the car and from the engine compartment. The diagnosis from the Mazda service facility was that there was coolant leaking from the head on the engine. Eventually this would have led to overheating of the vehicle which could have resulted in significant engine damage. The manufacturer has issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) for this problem. Cracking of the head that leads to coolant leaks is a known problem with this engine in several different models of Mazda including CX-5, CX-9, and Mazda 6. Our vehicle has remained in the shop since it was taken in on 11/8/2022.
