  • 2022 MERCEDES-BENZ GLE 350
    - Clearwater, FL

For approximately two years, I reported recurring moisture/condensation inside the RIGHT headlamp assembly of my 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 to Mercedes-Benz. I was repeatedly advised that the condensation was normal. The condition progressively worsened. The vehicle is now displaying headlamp warning messages and the RIGHT TURN SIGNAL associated with the affected headlamp is no longer functioning. I am also receiving repeated warning messages related to the headlamp/turn-signal malfunction. The loss of the turn signal creates a safety concern because I cannot reliably signal my intention to turn or change lanes to other motorists. Mercedes-Benz has now advised that the headlamp assembly requires replacement. The affected component is the RIGHT headlamp. For completeness, the vehicle previously sustained an unrelated sideswipe on the LEFT side, during which the LEFT headlamp was scuffed and replaced through insurance. There was no frontal collision, and the present moisture intrusion and signal failure are occurring in the RIGHT headlamp on the opposite side of the vehicle. I am reporting this to NHTSA because a condition Mercedes-Benz previously characterized as normal has progressed from condensation inside the headlamp to warning messages and failure of a safety-related signaling function. I am concerned that similar moisture intrusion in this headlamp assembly could affect other vehicles.

Engine misfires, lower engine power, and a lit check engine/Malfunction Indicator Lamp. Mercedes-Benz issued an Emission Service Campaign (No. 2021070006, internal code 21P1590208) to replace out-of-spec ignition coils on 657 vehicles from model year 2021, including the E-Class. My VIN was not included in the recall campaign but my vehicle is experiencing these exact symptoms as referenced in the first sentence. My vehicle has 48,000 miles.

    - Dix Hills, NY

My 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 (17,700 total miles) suffered a catastrophic structural engine block failure and an explosive loss of propulsion while driving at highway speeds. This occurred exactly 6 days and 183 miles after a franchised Mercedes-Benz dealership performed the official fuel pump impeller safety recall (NHTSA Campaign 23V-445).The dealership's official repair invoice documents that the technician custom-modified the recall remedy by reusing parts, explicitly stating: 'Relocated floater from old pump onto new fuel pump.' Simultaneously with the mechanical engine failure, a 'Reduce Engine Oil Level' message flashed on the dashboard, indicating severe fuel dilution from the compromised fuel system. The dealership is actively violating federal recall mandates by refusing to investigate this failed safety remedy unless I sign an open-ended financial check for a diagnostic and teardown fee. They have also revoked my substitute transportation to coerce payment. Mercedes-Benz USA Corporate Case Number 23652724 has been opened. I am requesting a federal safety investigation into this dealer's non-compliant recall remedy execution."

The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the engine was previously repaired because of the head gasket failure in 2024. The manufacturer was informed of the issue, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

  • 2018 MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER 2500
    - frederick, MD

SAFETY DEFECT REPORT & RECALL NON-COMPLIANCE: 2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 (VIN: [XXX]) This complaint involves an uncorrected emissions system defect that causes a sudden, dangerous engine shutdown and low-speed countdown limp mode on live roadways, combined with manufacturer recall non-compliance by Mercedes-Benz USA and its authorized franchise dealer, Euro Motorcars Bethesda. The vehicle was brought to an authorized dealership under a mandatory manufacturer recall (Recall Campaign 2025070001 / ECU software update) at 108,575 miles, well within the legally mandated 10-Year / 120,000-Mile Extended Emissions Modification Warranty. Prior to the recall service, the vehicle suffered an abrupt EGR loop breakdown and threw active safety shutdown code P19DE00 (EGR Shut Off / Exhaust Gas Recirculation Limp Mode), placing the vehicle in a hazardous low-speed countdown state. Instead of opening a mandatory Star Support warranty override file to replace the failing physical EGR hardware while the asset was legally under-mileage, the dealership cleared the fault codes to quickly process and bill for the software recall update, pushing the commercial vehicle back onto public roadways with active component restrictions. Because the manufacturer's franchise network failed to properly execute the recall and process the manual hardware extension while under-mileage, the automated database now blocks the required fix based on current elapsed mileage (129,093 miles). The vehicle is locked in an un-driveable limp mode condition in my driveway, completely destroying its utility. Mercedes-Benz USA Corporate Executive Care has actively refused to override the tracking error, violating the terms of the federal modification campaign and leaving an unsafe, defective vehicle in service. Vehicle experiences a severe, abrupt jerk/jolt during deceleration around the 5th-to-4th gear downshift. The issue occurs consistently when slowing down. Dealership verified the condition on Repair Order #1906625 and confirmed a transmission flaw. Dealer stated software is required from the manufacturer with no ETA for release. The abrupt deceleration creates unexpected cabin jolting during normal traffic slowing.
