the power steering assist fault it just stopped working. very hard to turn I have called dealerships but despite the same make and model of the recall they can't see anything for it when they search online

2009 MERCURY MARINER- Cleveland, OH
The contact owns a 2009 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel would vibrate abnormally. The contact stated that at start-up the power steering assist fault message appeared on the instrument panel. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle; she called her boyfriend to the scene and he drove the vehicle home. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

2007 MERCURY MILAN- Sullivan, MO
I was sent an IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL April 2021. The problem has never been fixed, and it's been almost a year since it was issued, and no parts are in to fix it?

2008 MERCURY MARINER- Union City, NJ
While driving suddenly a beep on the dashboard and a notice appeared, the steering wheel got too hard to make it turn, the notice on the dashboard "Power Steering Assist Fault" the part can"t be found anywhere but refurbished at a high price, it is very unsafe to drive while making turns. Wondering if this could be a good reason to order recall on this part. Vehicle was inspected by a Mechanic. what do I need to do now? Thanks

2008 MERCURY MARINER- Colorado Springs, CO
The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated while driving approximately 75 MPH and attempting to make a turn, the vehicle lost power steering assist. The contact was able to continue driving the vehicle in manual steering mode causing the vehicle to be difficult to maneuver. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was driven back to the residence and was diagnosed by an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the steering sensor was not operating as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.

2008 MERCURY MARINER HYBRID- Colorado Springs, CO
The contact's son owns a 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid. The contact stated that while her son was starting the vehicle, the steering wheel lost power steering functionality. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact's son was able to continue the drive the vehicle, however, extra effort was needed while driving the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the torque sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that no assistance could be provided because the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering). The failure mileage was approximately was 143,340.

The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that the power steering assist fault warning message was displayed. There was an abnormal metal on metal noise detected. The steering wheel was unstable. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 188,000.

2011 MERCURY MARINER- Washington, DC
The contact owns a 2011 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. After turning off the vehicle and restarting the engine, the vehicle would operate normally. The vehicle was taken to and independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering shaft torque sensor was faulty and need to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 140,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE WAS B2278. THE CONUSMER STATED DUE TO THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE DETAILED IN THE RECALL NOTICE, THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

2010 MERCURY MILAN- Richmond, VA
Power steering has failed multiple times on the vehicle. The dashboard displays 'power steering assist fault' and the steering wheel is locked. This is very dangerous and this vehicle is driven my my 80 year old mother.

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that ABS engaged while traveling on an icy road, the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact continued driving and the failure corrected itself. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the ABS control module was sticking and needed to be replaced. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact called the local dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but no further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.
