THOR MOTOR COACH Complaints

There is a recall on the windows. I received the notice from NHTSA in Jan of 2023. I have been trying to get Thor to perform the repair for 14 months, without success. The windows "could" fall off. In fact, one of my windows did fly off on the freeway and go through the windshield of a passenger car. Luckily nobody died, and my insurance paid them. But my other windows are loose and threatening to do the same. That is the very issue this recall is meant to solve. Very dangerous, and Thor isn't doing anything about it.

Main propane heater in my Thor Windsport 29M motorhome was coming on and goings on off before the desired temperature was reached. I realized it was cycling on the high limit switch, which is.generally caused by insufficient air flow over the heat exchanger. Took it in for warranty service which identified the cause as a kinked heater hose, which had to have been done at the factory during installation. Had the high limit switch failed, the motorhome would have been lost to a fire. Due to the high heat caused by the kinked duct, the blower wheel had partially melted.

This will be the third frameless window that needs repaired. The adhesive comes loose from the window and they swing freely. While driving down the interstate the windows have come free from adhesive. Had to pull to side of road and tape down the window until we could get it repaired.

The contact owns a 2018 Thor Palazzo. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, through the sideview mirror, he observed movement of the driver's side awning window, prompting him to pull to the shoulder of the roadway. After a visual inspection, he observed that the glass panel within the awning window was detached. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V339000 (Visibility), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 15,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Thor Motor Coach Tuscany 45AT built on a 2017 Freightliner XC-R Chassis. The contact stated that while driving 50 MPH, two of the passenger's side windows detached and started flapping against the RV wall. The contact veered to the side of the road, and duct taped the windows to the side of the RV. The contact drove to the Camping lot; however, while the RV was parked, he heard an abnormal sound. The contact noticed that one of the windows that was duct taped had separated and fell onto the ground. The vehicle was taken a local dealer, where it was determined that the windows needed to be replaced. The RV was not repaired. The Freightliner manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the Thor manufacturer. The Thor manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that there was no recall related to the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

The Engine shutdown four (4) times while driving all within the first 30-days of ownership. My safety was put at risk had another vehicle been following close behind and had it failed to stop and crash into the Van. Hendrick Dodge Ram Cary, NC found 30 plus stored fault codes and I captured 2 Active Codes during two of the shutdowns (Codes U0100 and U0104. The Active Codes signify electronic communication issues. There have been no warnings signs prior to the Engine shutting down. It happens very suddenly. When the shutdowns occur, all the dashboard warning lights flash indicating that there are multiple systems failures. Hendrick Dodge has had the Van for 5 weeks and they have been unable to duplicate the shutdown so there is nothing more they are willing to do. Also escalated this to Chrysler - CASE NUMBER-[XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The receiver hitch tore on both sides where the manufacturer (lippert) bends it, you can see where there press pinched the bend possibly weakening it. I have seen other forums and posts today about similar issues and denied responsibility from lippert on those posts. The hitch is available for inspection, ourselves and others were at risk of injury or death. I have not brought the physical unit into a shop, I don’t think it’s an insurance claim, and I don’t think I can report it to police? Since the situation was realized before it became catastrophic. Side entry door latch interior handle broke off preventing door from being operated to enter/exit coach house area without manipulation creating potential safety issue. This seems similar to recall 23V166000 but Thor was not listed under that recall. Door mechanism is the same or very similar to that recalls referenced part number MRL-41210-2006. Email has been sent to Thor but wanted to submit this based on reading similar recall mentioned above. Vehicle was stationary at time handle broke. Thor company of Indiana is the after market uplifter of a Ford Transit 2022. The Sancuary is teh model. The red power wire that connects from the secodnary altrnator in the enginne area runs along the inside f the front right tire to the chassi house battery in the back o the VAN. The power wire is incorrectly routed and the tire rubs up againsit it and rubs against the wire casuing damage and saftey issue. All of the 2023 models appear t be involved from a small sampling of owners on a facebook THOR sancuary owners forum. Thor refuses to issue a recall and refuses to facilitate the wire being replaced. They instead try to get you to take the van to the dealership and have it spliced instead. I would imagine there are some people that do not even know o the safety issue.

The contact owns a 2018 Freightliner XC-R. The contact stated that one of the windows located at the front end of the motorhome had started to delaminate. The contact used silicone to seal the window; however, he noticed that other windows in the motorhome were also experiencing the same failure. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, a bathroom window detached from the RV. The contact stated that a total of five windows in the motorhome had failed due to an adhesive failure. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V522000 (Structure, Equipment). The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but the RV was not included in the recall. The RV was not repaired. The failure mileage was 37,231.
