Windows have detached from the vehicle while driving on two occasions. One was recovered on the shoulder of the highway, another quite large window was lost on the interstate and could have hit another vehicle. The Lippert windows are already the subject of a NHTSA safety recall (21V-522); however, even though the windows have experienced an adhesive failure and detached from the vehicle while driving, exactly as described in the recall, Lippert and Thor Motor Coach claim that this vehicle is not included in the recall by date of manufacture and specifically by VIN. Photos of the failures were provided to Lippert.

While traveling on [XXX] on [XXX] the engine suddenly made a very loud banging noise, and the RV was quickly losing power. I managed to ease over to the shoulder and come to a stop before the engine shutdown. It would not restart. I called roadside assistance and two hours later a tow showed up and took it to a Ford dealership in Quakertown, PA that could service an RV. Their diagnostics confirmed that it suffered a catastrophic engine failure. It is still at the dealership. My wife and I were terrified that an inattentive driver would slam into the car attached to the back of the RV or sideswipe the RV itself as it was only 3ft from the travel lane. There were no warnings of any kind. All of the gauges were reading normal and there was only 10300 miles on the odometer. It was safety inspected and had the oil changed just 2 months prior. There is a electric privacy shade inside my RV for the windshield. My motor failed in the down position. I tried to get a replacement motor but none is available. I emailed the manufacturer of the shade and they gave me a replacement part number, this is where the safety issue comes in. The original motor has two memories built into it, four wires to control it. With the key off, while you are camping, you can press the SHADE down button and the shade will go down on its own and stop in the correct position. Same thing when you press the SHADE up button, this is memory ONE. Any time you have the ignition key on the shade goes into memory TWO mode and will raise the shade to about half way up on the windshield on its own. You can, while driving, raise the shade more than half way but never lower than about half way. SAFETY FEATURE! The replacement motor Irvine Shade and Door said to use has only one memory with two wires. So now my RV has no safety feature with the key on to keep the shade from going all the way down while driving. My switch is on the lower left of my dash with three other identical buttons, hard to see which button is which driving down the road. What if I hit the wrong button and the shade automatically goes all the way down on its own while driving. I think the manufacturer needs to have this motor put back into production again and make it available to the public. I know that my RV is not the only one with this shade motor and that IRVINE is not the only one using this motor on the windshield shades.

Air conditioner compressor wouldn't engage in rv. Called a mobile technician. Mobile technician found burnt and melted connectors on the control board. Technician stated the connectors used for 120v power were 12v crimp connectors and had burned and melted from the amperage. Technician stated that these used connectors were illegal to use for 120v. This is a safety concern and could result in a fire. Stated we were lucky the control board melted and didn't result in a fire and burn down the coach.

Hello NTSB, the frameless windows Thor used on my rv are all failing.. basically the adhesive used to glue the bottom rail onto the glass keeps failing. This week I had two windows fail. The top bunk window, and the emergency exit window. Both window (at separate times) failed while driving. Lucky I saw them break loose and my wife was able to grab the window before it flew off on the freeway and possibly caused a major accident or injury with flying glass at freeway speed. Again this is the 4th window failure in the last 3 years. All with the Same problem. Last summer I had the same problem with the bottom bunk window, however that window flew off somewhere in New Mexico. Unfortunately I have no idea if the large piece of glass flying off my rv at freeway speed hurt anyone or anything. I filed a NTSB report (just like this) last year, and the never received or heard anything back from you guys. A year later 2 more windows have failed. Reading other post in the palazzo Facebook page, window failure (as I’m describing) is a very common occurrence. So much so, the 2017 and 2016 units have the recall on the windows. However the 2018’s are not included in that recall, but are obviously having the same problem. Please investigate this. Thor and the windows manufacturer HELM, are aware of the problem. So much so they sent me a new window and frame for the one I lost at no cost. Taking with HELM, they said they see this a lot.

The splines on the wiper arm connecting to the wiper motor control studs are stripped out on both the passenger and driver sides, rendering the wipers ineffective during rain. When driving at highway speeds, the only course of action is to pull over and wait for the rain to stop. I visited an RV repair facility, a Ford dealership parts department, and a diesel parts business to find a replacement. All three businesses confirmed that the wiper arm is irreparable and needs to be replaced.

The following severe safety defects were found on the motorhome: - The passenger side wall was NOT attached on the bottom to the frame. The mounting locations are missing all mounting hardware from the factory. The wall is breaking away from the roof where it is the only location anchored. If it wasn't discovered, the whole side wall may fall off endangering the occupants and other vehicles on the road. -The front cap is pulling away from the coach due to insufficient mounting screws on both sides, which could cause the front fiberglass cap to fall off on the road, causing an accident. - All compartments on the passenger side were not attached to the frame with any hardware. This was discovered when suddenly on a trip a weird noise was heard from tailpipe. The compartment had fallen on the tailpipe and was vibrating. This could have caused a fire resulting in total loss of the RV endangering the occupants or dropping debris on the road that could have caused an accident. - The main support beam, where it connects vertically to the horizontal beam, behind the drivers seat next to the wall slide was only poorly mig welded on one side with a poor spot weld on another, not all four sides as a support beam should be. The beams over time have flexed and broken the weld. This could have caused a failure of the driver's wall, falling off along with the occupants at dinette. In an accident, the motorhome would have crushed my children and endangered other vehicles on the road. Each failure has been recorded with photos and video. The repairs can be inspected along with the detached wall. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but refused to fix the beam failure. It was welded by a professional who could confirm the diagnosis. The cap issue is common among many vehicles and is known by most dealers and the manufacturer. The symptoms appeared when checking the vehicle on a stop when cracks in the side frame were found. The other failures were found during inspection

I purchased the motorhome from Fraserway RV in Kamloops, BC. The vehicle was sold to me as a new unused unit in November 2023. While turning into a strip mall parking lot from a small service road, we were travelling at around 5-10 KPH. My wife and I heard a very odd low "thud" type of noise coming from somewhere in the motorhome. We parked in the mall parking lot and began to look for the source of the noise. We were unable to find anything so we assumed perhaps something in a cupboard had shifted. We purchased some groceries and my wife decided to move some frying pans from under the cupboard sink to the oven drawer. The oven drawer is covered in a glass type material. When my wife opened the drawer the glass panel on the oven drawer, literally exploded in her face sending glass shrapnel throughout the motorhome. I reported the incident to the Manufacturer and they did not even reply. It seems evident that the drawer glass panel experienced some sort of stress which caused the thud. NOTE: I am located in Kamloops, BC, Canada but your system doesn't allow me to make this information known.

The LP gas line running to the rear mounted water heater started leaking and when removed you see where the hose was burned due to faulty engineering of hanger supports or improper installation. I have the current hose and have pictures of the engine compartment and the burned hose. No insurance claim or manufacturer contact was initiated. If you were to drive with the LP system energized and fire or explosion could occur with propane leaking into the engine compartment. The LP leak system did not detect the leak as it is located in the living area by the stove. A secondary sensor in now being installed in the sleeping area which is right next to the area where the hose was installed. The only warning was our ability to smell the propane and shut the tank operating valve.
