The car powered off on me while driving on the interstate causing an extremely dangerous situation for me and other drivers without any warning, no signs the vehicle abruptly stopped I coasted to the side and avoided traffic and started right up but drove rough. It’s fuel and fluids in the car and no check engine lights were on.

  • 2024 CHEVROLET TRAX
    - Tucson, AZ

On March 22, 2026, I was driving at approximately 45 mph, and my daughter was in the passenger seat, trying to connect her music to the car radio and the instrument panel (dashboard) screens went completely blank. For several seconds, I had not readings from the dashboard lighting. It went completely black. It then reset itself, much like a computer when you restart it. Within a short time (less than a minute) the instrument panel began working again. This was the third time this has happened to this vehicle. The first time was in July 2024 and the second time in November 2025. Both of those incidents were reported to NHTSA. There had been a software recall for NHTSA 23V744000 for this very problem in 2024 Chevrolet Trax, but my VIN was not included in the safety recall for increased risk of crash. I brought the Trax to the dealership after the third incident. They did a software update on 25-NA-071. I hope this remedies the problem.

    - Simi Valley, CA

While driving the brake pedal suddenly became hard to push making the car unable to slow down. Put car in neutral and managed to get off street into parking lot and coast to a stop. Car would no longer start. Towed to dealership for assessment. Reports of broken vacuum pump pieces and related metal debris found in engine. Dealership recommended engine replacement. Notified GM, they provided a case number and helped discount the full cost of engine replacement down to $6,225.00 which we paid out of pocket (or risk losing the full value of our equity in the vehicle against a replacement).

I had my oil changed and the next day the check engine light came on. I looked on the Chevy app to see what it was and it said Varuable Valve timing issue. I Click further into the app warning and it said, Engines equipped with this system use sensors that regulate the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves to optimize performance and efficiency. I live 3 and a half hours away fro. The dealership so I had some mechanics look at the truck just to see if they could pin point what the issues was exactly. They didnt pull or work on anything just looked around listened and plugged in a code reader. The code reader found some codes that had to do with 3rd stage valve timing issues and VVT. And 1 or 2 other codes. But they didnt know exactly what was wrong. I had my oil changed 1 more time to see if maybe that was the issue. It did not fix the issue. I called the dealership to make a appointment. I brought it in and get a call that the cam shaft need to be replaced. It was in the shop for about a month and when they said it was ready. I went to pick it up and as I was pulling out of the dealership parking lot. The check engine light came on and I drove back and it had the same codes. And now it is being worked on again. The safety side is if it looses power while im going 65 mph it could be really dangerous. Becaue there could be metal shavings in the oil possibly.

We have occasional issues with the car coming to a very abrupt stop for no apparent reason. Typically this will happen when going through an intersection or pulling into our garage. Auto braking has been disabled in the system settings for quite some time, and in fact, each time we get in the car we see a warning that forward anti-collision braking is off. This has happened twice withing the past 4 days and we have concerns that if it continues to be a more frequent issue it will cause an accident. I recently spoke with another GM owner who told me they are experiencing the same issue so I thought I should log a complaint to hopefully help instigate a recall/fix.

Component/System Failure: The turbocharger system failed, specifically the wastegate arm, resulting in loss of boost and reduced engine performance. The failed component should be available for inspection upon request through the servicing dealership. Safety Risk: The failure caused a sudden loss of engine power while driving, placing me and others at risk, especially in traffic situations where acceleration is required (such as merging, crossing intersections, or maintaining speed). This created a hazardous driving condition. Confirmation of Issue: The problem was diagnosed and confirmed by an authorized dealership. The diagnosis stated: “turbocharger wastegate arm damaged causing loss of boost and DTC,” which matches known issues described in GM’s Special Coverage. Inspection History: The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership service department. It has not yet been inspected directly by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. Warning Signs Prior to Failure: Yes. The vehicle displayed a check engine light and reduced engine power message prior to the failure. These symptoms began shortly before the vehicle experienced noticeable loss of acceleration and performance. Additional Information: This failure is consistent with a known issue acknowledged by General Motors under Special Coverage for similar vehicles experiencing turbocharger-related defects. Despite having the same failure and symptoms, my vehicle was excluded based on lot number, not condition or diagnosis.
