I am submitting a complaint regarding my 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT. My truck currently has approximately 80,000 miles, and it has recently been diagnosed by a Chevrolet dealership as needing a complete transmission replacement. This vehicle has been lightly driven and very well maintained, and I rarely drive it. Because of this, I am extremely concerned and disappointed that such a major mechanical component has failed at such relatively low mileage. A transmission should reasonably last well beyond 80,000 miles under normal driving conditions. The dealership informed me that the entire transmission needs to be replaced, which is a very costly repair. Given the mileage and the way the vehicle has been used, I believe this may indicate a defect or premature failure rather than normal wear and tear. I am requesting that General Motors review this situation and consider goodwill assistance or coverage for the repair. I purchased this vehicle with the expectation that it would be reliable for many more miles, and this issue has significantly affected my confidence in the vehicle. I would appreciate a review of my case and any assistance GM can provide toward resolving this problem

This truck has a 6.2 engine that was recalled, inspected, and made the switch to the new oil, but then failed. I believe you already have a recall query rq26001 related to this matter. I received the recall notice July 2025, took the vehicle to Covert Bee Cave in Austin, TX July 2025. They told me it passed inspection and put the new oil cap on. Within two weeks I began having transmission issues. I left the truck with them for three weeks and they could not do anything about the transmission. The transmission issue did not reappear until a couple of weeks ago. I took it to Capitol Chevrolet and they replaced a shifter rod in the transmission, but I am not convinced that was the issue as it still shifted rough. Just a couple of days later, before I could take it back to have Capitol look at the transmission, and while driving on an Interstate south of San Antonio, TX, the engine slowed down, flashed a warning "Oil Pressure Low Turn Vehicle Off" and it continued to slow. I was barely able to exit the Interstate, the truck stopped and would not restart. I had it towed to Vara Chevrolet in San Antonio ($440 tow expense) and it still would not start. The technician finally inspected it a few days later, said the engine is seized, and they will need to replace the entire engine, and that it is covered under warranty (there was plenty of oil in my engine). He did not say anything about the transmission. I believe this is an example of my vehicle passing the recall inspection, changing to the new oil, and the engine still failing - and at a very dangerous time on the interstate.

ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK OF FRONT PASSENGER DOOR DOES NOT UNLOCK DOOR. PLUNGER TRIES TO MOVE UP WHEN ENERGIZED BUT STAYS IN LOCKED POSITION. DOOR DESIGN DOES NOT INCLUDE MECHANICAL KEY UNLOCK OVERRIDE. A FIRST RESPONDER WOULD NEED NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS TO LIFT UP THE DOOR LOCK STEM. THIS FAILURE PUTS ANY PASSENGER AT RISK OF DELAYED EXIT. THE LEFT REAR PASSENGER DOOR HAD THIS FAILURE MAY 2024, NO PRIOR SYMPTOMS. THE DRIVER DOOR HAD THIS FAILURE A FEW MONTHS LATER. EACH REPAIR COSTS OVER $700, DEALER IS AWARE OF THESE FAILURES. NO WARNINGS OF THIS FAILURE VISIBLE. NO INSPECTIONS MADE OTHER THAN DEALER

In April of 2022 with 26k miles my vehicle had its first engine failure, Chevrolet dealership had to replace engine lifters due to a known engineering defect with the 2021 6.2 L87 engine. Now in late February 2026 with 80k miles my engine has locked up and requires a brand new engine replacement. For some reason, even though this is a L87 6.2L 2021 engine it is not part of the broader recall for this exact same engine failure for the same engine year and model.

My vehicle frequently loses all cabin sound, including the radio, audible turn signal, and forward/rear collision and lane departure warnings. When this occurs, the cabin is completely silent. The loss of radio audio is an inconvenience, but the loss of safety feature alerts is a clear hazard. My dealership has suggested this may be related to a recent software update; however, there is no apparent correlation between the updates and when the issue occurs.

When accelerating to enter a road with high speed traffic the engine dies for a few seconds resulting in on coming traffic having to brake to avoid a collision. Then, the engine suddenly accelerates wildly. This problem occurs every time the vehicle is driven. The dealer service people has "tested" by driving the vehicle for 7 miles and declared there is nothing wrong. This is dangerous because the vehicle engine dies/stalls at a critical moment and if an oncoming driver isn't paying attention this could result in a collision.
