2021 MAZDA CX-5- Sun Prairie, WI
For the third time in 3 years we have had to had the timing cover and gasket replaced due to major oil leakage. This appears to be a very common issue with this car, and even after getting it “fixed” the first time it is leaking again.

2024 MAZDA CX-5- VIRGINIA BCH, VA
Something malfunctioned with the brake system of the car. The car was in park and off. I exited the car, reached back into the car for an item, and shut the door. I then walked up the driveway and to the front door. At that point, the car began to roll down the driveway. Someone coming down the road in front of the driveway hit it on the front passenger side. The car then continued to roll across the street and part way up the driveway across the street, coming back across the street and then ran into the same car that hit it. I was then able to open the car door and get inside. It was still off and in park. I depressed the brake pedal, started the car, put it into drive, and moved it to the side of the street. After the incident, I tried multiple times to replicate the incident with my car. I tried leaving it in reverse, even though I know it was off and parked. I also tried leaving it in neutral and turning it off, even though I know it was off and in park. Each time, the car began to roll immediately. There was no way that I could have done what I did that day, which was to step out, reach back in to get a bag, shut the door, and then walk away. The car was definitely off and parked when it happened. The vehicle is currently at a Mazda authorized repair shop, and I am awaiting the final word on whether or not they can detect what exactly caused the brakes to malfunction. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the issue; however, I did notice that something seemed to be going on with the screen of the car prior to the incident. though the clock was set to the correct time, the screens auto-sensor for day and night mode was not functioning correctly. (When it got dark, the screen was still staying lit up brightly. I confirmed that it was on "auto" mode, and it should have dimmed since it was after 9:30pm and dark out, but it didn't. I had to manually switch it to "night" each time it was dark.)

2018 MAZDA CX-5- Beech Island, SC
Cylinder head was found to be cracked for a while on the vehicle. This was discovered at 117K miles but likely was cracked well before judging from the age of the oil in the engine bay. Car has been maintained well this shouldn't be happening at all this early into its life.

2011 MAZDA MAZDA6- Belle, WV
After getting the recall information about the front crossmember rusting out due to corrosion, I decided to check the rear crossmember on my car. WOW, the rear crossmember is SO much worse than the front one and I’ve read hundreds of similar stories about the exact same thing happening to other Mazda 6 sedans around these model years (2009-2013). The rear crossmember on my car, which supports the entire rear suspension is completely rusted thru in several spots and the lower end links aren’t even attached anymore because the brackets literally fell off and so now both back tires are leaning in at the top. It is very noticeable! Very unsafe to drive! I decided to park this car until a solution is reached with Mazda or the NHTSA on how to deal with this. I don’t know why the front crossmember was recalled but not the rear? There’s only 2 things that are rusted on my car, period…the front & rear crossmembers!

2018 MAZDA MAZDA3- Lexington, KY
The infotainment screen in this vehicle has internally delaminated causing a well-known "ghosting" problem that causes random buttons to be pressed (without touching the screen) while driving, including volume changes. This results in the system randomly choosing radio stations and turning the volume up to high levels suddenly, distracting the driver and making the screen unusable. Mazda repairs 2014-2016 model year vehicles with this issue under an extended warranty but refuses to do so for 2017+ models.

2009 MAZDA MAZDA6- Getzville, NY
This 2009 Mazda 6 hit a chuck hole in the Buffalo NY area, virtually severing the connection between the rear cross member (aka cradle or sub frame) and the right rear wheel and rendering the car all but undriveable. Mechanic said the failure to sufficiently rust proof the subject parts caused severe deterioration of the rear sub frame. This is essentially the same problem that led NHTSA to issue a recall on this vehicle for the front engine cradle in 2018.

2012 MAZDA MAZDA6- Milwaukee, WI
The contact owns a 2012 Mazda Mazda6. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the steering wheel began to shake violently, with the low tire pressure warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to inspect the vehicle and discovered that the front passenger’s side tire had detached from the vehicle. The contact's father was called to the scene and the spare tire was placed on the vehicle. The contact then drove to an independent mechanic where both the front driver’s and front passenger’s side tires were replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic test was performed; and the diagnostic test determined that the cross member had corroded and caused the tire failure. The contact was then notified that the vehicle was not covered under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V323000 (Structure, Suspension) and that the warranty on the vehicle had expired. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer and was not repaired. The failure mileage was 204,000.
