  • 2017 CHEVROLET VOLT
    - Hubbard, OH

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Volt. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 - 40 MPH, the message stating that the propulsion was reduced was displayed, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact continued to drive the vehicle, and the vehicle unintendedly decelerated. The contact arrived at the destination and parked the vehicle, and the message “Shift to Park” was displayed even though the gear shifter was in park(P). The message “Charging Unavailable” was displayed. The contact stated that while charging the vehicle, the mileage was reduced from 72 miles to approximately 29 miles during the winter months, and 42 miles during the summer months, while still indicating a FULL charge. The “Shift to Park” failure had occurred twice the previous year, and the vehicle was turned off and restarted to correct the failure. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, who diagnosed that the hybrid power train control module had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified on the website, and a case was filed; however, a representative was not reached. The failure mileage was approximately 26,500.

6.2L L87 V8 engine experienced catastrophic engine failure do to lifter failure and a cylinder 8 misfire. Causing additional damage to camshaft. The dealership has inspected the vehicle and refuses to acknowledge the problem as there own. I have invoices for the work if I choose to proceed. Incident occurred while driving on the freeway, complete lose of power and control. This engine is known for this exact problem yet I never received a recall.

I am sending this email to report that my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado had its rear brakes lock up momentarily on consecutive days (1/13/26 & 1/14/26) driving 70-72 mph.  Each occurrence came on without warning and only lasted a brief moment, but locked up hard enough for my rear wheels to screech and slam me forward in the truck, thankfully there were no other vehicles near me. I took the truck to the dealership first thing in the morning on 1/15/26 to be informed later that day that the truck didn't show any codes.  The service department at my dealership contacted the TAC Dept. at GM and they determined that the problem was caused by the brake light wiring from my truck topper (that was after they asked if the customer had added any accessories to the truck).  I have had the topper for 3 years without any issues.  I reached out to the company that installed the topper and the owner said that GM is giving me the run around and trying to point the blame elsewhere. He himself has installed 100's of toppers and they follow the wiring instructions from Leer Toppers. He did a 30 second Google search and said [XXX] , the problem you have experienced is well documented online, GM knows what the problem is with your truck". My truck was at the dealership for 5 days before they released it to me, even after I told them that there are known and documented cases of their trucks experiencing momentary rear wheel lockups. I have called GM Customer Service twice and left messages regarding my truck and TAC # and haven't received a return call. I am fearful that when this happens again and if it does so in the wrong place at the wrong time the end of this story may be tragic.   If I was pulling a trailer, driving on ice or in rush hour traffic I can't imagine the outcome. GM knows they have a serious problem and they is comfortable in releasing a dangerous truck back onto the roads. My 2022 Silverado Pickup with 6.2 engine simply died as I was heading down the highway at 65mph. It was dark outside and I barely got it pulled over to side of road safely. Had to have it towed to Chevy dealer. They weren’t sure what problem was— starter and battery indicated ok. However we had them install new ones just in case. We’ve seen on our searches of the internet that this is not a new problem. Just today it died again on me as I was driving in town, but did start again. I travel quite a bit and am worried it will die on me again in this crazy cold weather! Chevy needs to acknowledge this issue with the 6.2 motor! I’ve already spent almost $1500 on this issue and don’t think it’s fixed,

My truck took my truck to Austin and back. Woke up the next day. Started it at approximately 4 o'clock in the afternoon and had engine oil low alert. Got out check the oil in my truck and there was none on the dipstick with the truck off of course. Checked at two other times allowing the dipstick to stay in for three or four minutes. Still no oil on the dipstick. Did not drive truck any further. Truck has the 6.2 L and I had the recall applied to the truck on December 8. The truck has 88% of the oil life remaining according to the truck.

When my windows are up the heater whines, now yesterday the rear window blew out, I’m being told it is a known issue with the 2015 Chevy Silverado, I saw it was recalled and fixed in 2020, obviously the fix did not work and now my truck is a fire danger.
